Genevieve Flavelle (she/her) is an independent curator, artist, and scholar based in Toronto.
She recently completed a PhD in Art History at Queen’s University. Her doctoral research investigates the work of queer and trans contemporary artists who are challenging traditional forms of historical research to give voice to underrepresented, forgotten, or imagined histories.
As a curator, she has organized exhibitions in galleries and artist-run centres across Canada, most recently Celestial Bodies: Expanding Sexuality and Gender at the Campbell River Art Gallery (2023). Her writing has appeared in various art publications, exhibition catalogues, and the Journal of Feminist Scholarship. She was the Curator in Residence at McMaster University (2023/2024).
As an artist she is interested in experimenting with how traditional craft practices such as quilting can open channels to queer and trans lineages.
